About the Summit

At the same time, humanity faces emerging challenges that extend far beyond traditional environmental issues. Rapid urbanization, population growth, environmental health, waste management, plastic pollution, energy transition, food security, sustainable agriculture, environmental justice, green finance, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices, the circular economy, artificial intelligence, and technological transformation are reshaping the global sustainability agenda. These complex challenges are no longer the responsibility of a single country, institution, discipline, or sector. They require integrated thinking, multidisciplinary research, technological innovation, evidence-based policymaking, and meaningful collaboration among governments, academic institutions, industries, civil society organizations, and local communities.

Although the international community has made significant commitments through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and numerous international environmental conventions, the pace of implementation remains insufficient. Scientific knowledge and technological innovation continue to advance rapidly; however, many research findings, innovative solutions, and best practices still fail to reach policymakers, industries, communities, and decision-makers where they can generate meaningful impact. Bridging the gap between knowledge and action has therefore become one of the defining challenges of our time.

Today’s environmental challenges cannot be addressed through isolated efforts or fragmented approaches. They demand collective responsibility, global dialogue, scientific cooperation, technological innovation, knowledge sharing, and long-term international partnerships. Every research finding, technological breakthrough, successful community initiative, and policy innovation has the potential to contribute to a more sustainable, resilient, and environmentally responsible future. What is needed is an inclusive international platform where ideas can be presented, discussed, evaluated, refined, and translated into practical solutions.

It is with this vision that the 7th World Environment Summit 2026 has been conceived.
The 7th World Environment Summit will be organized by ESDA India (Environment and Social Development Association) in collaboration with Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi, along with several distinguished national and international academic institutions, research organizations, industry leaders, and corporate partners. The Summit will be held from 22–26 October 2026 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, bringing together researchers, academicians, policymakers, government officials, industry experts, research institutions, international organizations, and civil society representatives from around the world. It will provide a dynamic platform to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, promote collaborative research, and strengthen global partnerships for environmental sustainability and sustainable development.
